Contrast Sensitivity Training
Three Gabor patches appear below — all with the same orientation. Find the one with a different contrast level. As you get better at the task, the difference becomes subtler.

Contrast practice in the app
Visionary tracks your threshold in this exercise over time and adapts your daily plan to your answers.
Why Contrast Sensitivity Matters
The Foundation of Vision
Contrast sensitivity is your brain's ability to distinguish an object from its background. It's even more important than visual acuity (the "20/20" number) for real-world tasks like reading in dim light or driving at dusk.
How Presbyopia Affects Contrast
As your lens hardens with age (presbyopia), it scatters light more, reducing the contrast of images reaching your retina, which is one reason small print in dim light feels harder.
What the research tested
A small 2012 study (Polat et al.) trained 30 adults with presbyopia on a lab contrast task for about 37 half-hour sessions and reported gains on several near-vision measures. It had only three no-practice controls, wasn't randomized, and didn't test Visionary.
Practising at threshold
The demo keeps the difference near the edge of what you can see. In lab studies, people get better at detecting faint patterns they practise; that learning tends to stay specific to the task.
